Oil Types

When it comes to a proper oil change, the type of oil used depends on the age and make of your vehicle. Here is a breakdown of the four general motor oil types:

  • Full Synthetic Motor Oil – Full synthetic oils are uniquely designed to resist sludge and deposit formation. They also enjoy better viscosity at both low and high temperatures than conventional oil or other blends.
  • Synthetic Blend Motor Oil – As the name suggests, synthetic blend motor oil is a combination of conventional oil with synthetic base stocks. Due to added synthetic base stocks, higher performance can be achieved than conventional oil by itself.
  • Conventional Motor Oil – Conventional oil is a lubricant derived from crude oil. Though it decreases wear on the engine and is effective at high temperatures, it lacks some of the beneficial properties of both full synthetic and synthetic blend.
  • High-Mileage Motor Oil – Older engines need a little more care. High-mileage motor oil contains additives specially designed to enhance performance, reduce leaks and keep the engine properly conditioned.

As Orem auto care experts, we will make the right recommendations for your vehicle. The type of oil you use can have a lasting effect on engine life.
